It has been said many times and in many ways that your heart holds all the treasure, talent, hope, joy and guidance that you require.
 Bradford Keeney.
Art is a relationship between who we are and what we do and like all relationships it takes work to keep it alive. On the negative side, keeping it alive can be frustrating, exhausting, depressing and may cause one to want to give up.  Fortunately there is a plus side where one experiences adventure, excitement and wonder at what is possible.  Because we can trust this imbalance between the negative and positive aspects of painting, our efforts can come as a surprise as they bring us deeper in the magical process of creativity.  For me, Barnyard Rooster is one of those paintings that invited me to dig deeper into what my heart holds.
At the onset of this painting excursion, I wasn’t after anything in particular. I was out to play – to experience water, paint and a delightful surface called terra skin.  Barnyard Rooster is the outlandish result! Is it a Cockfight or is the rooster chasing a possible predator or is he just feeling his importance in the barnyard?  All the descriptions are plausible but what I relate to is the action from the brushstrokes, the colors used and particularly the transformation between the descriptive strong darks and the mystical softer edges that support them.

It is true, at least for me, that the heart does hold all the treasure, talent, hope, joy and guidance that is required. Working at my relationship with Art is indeed an adventure – one I am more than willing to continue.

Although I don’t sail, I love everything about sailing:  the wind captures my imagination; the graceful sails, the sound of the water is like listening to the planet catching its breath.  What I feel about sailing is captured in this painting called Persistence.  A race is in progress and even though the sailboat which is the focal point of the painting seems to be behind, the sailors remain diligent, determined to stay the course to the end.  Wind, water, sails and human persistence along with an obscured horizon give this work an ethereal feel – telling me that it is not just about the human maneuvering of a sail boat but the totality of the elements surrounding it.
Metaphorically, sailing speaks to my soul.  The unpredictability of wind and water demands captain and crew to merge with the elements as if they are one …. As indeed they are. Sometimes sailing is smooth, sometime troubled and sometimes stormy.  Experience teaches me that facing each of them, whatever they are is the soul’s only way of staying true to the course.

There is an energetic feeling that surrounds me when I become mindful.  It is like gears within shifting from one to another.  This shifting of gears metaphor creates an enchanting and magical existence.  I love fairy tales: the enchantment (lovely word), the magical components that fairy tales have. Beings of Light appearing in my mind's eye and speak to me using silent words.
As a child, imagination was my best friend but as I matured, it got it dismissed as irrelevant. But now it is back: Images and awareness, invisible to the naked eye, are magical realities. I am enchanted - I live an enchanted life because this energetic feeling that surrounds me is also within me.  It is where life unfolds magically.  Every day is a miraculous event and I can choose to follow whatever I want.  Who, or what will I serve today - What I seek, seeks me.  What I serve, serves me.
Like most artists, I think metaphorically thus images are essential. It seems to me that imagination is a building block – an important corner stone for what one is about to create.  Welcome back Imagination...

    Author

Like painting, writing is another form of creative expression.  Instead of using brushstrokes, however, one uses words.  Writing creates inner visualization and this is what this blog is to be about.  Some writings will have paintings but not all of them.  The covid pandemic has brought out the writer in me and I am loving creating using this venue.
I am a Thinker that delights in philosophical paradigms - that has opinions and likes to share them.  If you feel so moved, and want to respond feel free.    I am  not interested in arguing my points of view, just in sharing them.
