Meditation

The Meditator

Years ago, I rented an apartment in a small town in Nova Scotia.  The building was owned by two brothers who agreed to renovate a studio for me while I lived there. Because I am an artist they enjoyed my creativity and appreciated my suggestions.  The above painting is done on a piece of gyprock they used when applying the ‘mud’ to the walls. When they finished their work for the day this is what appeared:  I clearly saw someone in a meditative position and Beings manifesting seemingly unbeknownst to the Meditator. I was fascinated!
Very little had to be changed; the edges of the gyprock needed to be cut slightly and some sanding.  Then the pigment was added to bring forth the details but that was all that was necessary.
Whether we know it or not we are surrounded by unseen Beings.  Science is proving that space is not empty but teeming with Energy. This Energy may be invisible yet it is always interacting with us.  There are forces that hear us and respond to us.  They use our five senses, our intuition and telepathy to communicate.  They delight in our meditations, our prayers, our gratitude especially when we show compassion for all of creation.
In an attempt to manifest these unseen Energies, historically as well as presently, architecture, paintings, sculpture, writings have expressed this deep knowing that Something More exists.  The leap between classical physics and quantum physics has changed the way we look at our world.  We are called to question more and accept less of what we have been taught.  Imagination, dreams, out of body and near death experiences are at last credible.
Along with the Ancients and those who are making new strides into the Unseen,  the existence of Beings is real and even recognizable. Life came to this piece of gyprock with the appearance of The Meditator.  When I meditate, I just may be ‘entertaining angels unaware’ who knows? Finding this jewel among junk is telling me so. I certainly has taught me to see.

Petroglyph

I shaped this painting of The Petroglyph by allowing it to evolve from the place where mental images are observed.  In Quantum Physics there is what is called “The Observer Effect” where the Observer and the Observed are one and the same.  Perhaps this painting exemplifies the observer effect.  The Artist and the Art are one.  The emotional effect is palpable and perhaps speaks to the artist’s innate ability to reach back millions of years to when petroglyphs were etched into cave walls.
When in Limoux, Southern France doing a workshop I visited a cave where the petroglyphs were estimated to be some 20,000 years old. They were breathtaking. I became silent in their presence. Like the cave paintings, could my painting be a deep recollection from my subconscious mind reminding me of where we all have come from - that time is an illusion?
Questions like these have some scientific backing but they also have something more: they have a resonance. They carry an ancient vibration – a wisdom that knows that certain truths are eternal.
While I may not have the answers to such deep questions, I do know this work named The Petroglyph is like a fingerprint or a snowflake, it can never be repeated.  It is one of a kind.

Love Letters From the Angels

Several years ago I saw a T-Shirt in a gift shop with words “Feathers are Love Letters from Angels”. Not having money or credit card with me the T-shirt was left in the shop with me lamenting not being able to buy it.  However, the words have stayed with me.
My original intention for this painting was not about angelic love letters. In fact I just wanted to move pigment around on primed watercolor paper.  From multi colored abstract forms, curvilinear lines and soft brush strokes, feathers appeared.  Only after completing the painting did I realize it was all about Feathers.  After the T-shirt incident, calling the painting Love Letters from Angels seemed inevitable.
This painting is a reminder of unseen Entities that we might call Angels. How fortunate are we who believe these Entities guide us on our life’s journey. In fact how fortunate are we who know that we are in relationship with these Beings of Light and can rely upon them.  This painting may not have power in itself but when I named it “Love Letters from Angels” it seemed to evoke a mystical Presence of Divine Intelligence.  Doing a painting like this awakens one to something greater than oneself. We break through established beliefs challenge them, taking them beyond logic, reason and the five senses as being the only reality.  Love Letters from Angels is a talisman connecting me so that whenever I see a feather, I am reminded of the Presence of Angels

Like painting, writing is equally engaging. Using both to express myself I decided to create this blog. The combination of writing and painting is a type of junction in my creative ventures.  These junctions with their rules or lack of them are discoveries that happen in my work as a result.   Rules can be necessary guidelines but there are also places where I have followed my inner self to see what will happen.  This blog is about sharing my discoveries.
